Facebook is taking MASSIVE heat this week after it blocked the Wes Cook band from using their paid tools to promote its song “I Stand for the Flag.”
The group is based out of Nashville, where they recorded and released a video for “I Stand for the Flag.” Monday morning the song dropped on Facebook.
According to the band, they decided to promote the video using paid Facebook advertisements. While the request was initially approved, Facebook turned around and rejected the request, citing the video’s “political content.”
Late Tuesday evening, Facebook announced that the decision has been reversed.
A Facebook spokesperson explained, “We recently announced anyone running ads about political or other major national issues must include a ‘paid for’ label. After looking again, we determined that this ad doesn’t need that label. While this is a new policy, and while we won’t ever be perfect, we think knowing who is behind an ad is important, and we’ll continue to work on improving as we roll it out.”

The song is in NO WAY political, featuring lyrics such as: “Don’t care if you’re black or white or who you love, I stand for the Flag and the Flag stands for all of us,” and, “You ain’t gotta pick a side, you can love your fellow man and still have pride.”
Frontman Wes Cook explained that the song was created to bridge the political divide, not foster division.
Cook said in a statement provided to Fox News, “Our song bleeds unity and love of country. It doesn’t see race, color, religion, or political affiliation. I Stand for the Flag’ means I am thankful for the freedoms and opportunities this country gives all citizens, and shows how dependent we all are on each other for the success of our individual American Dream. I believe patriotism is not political.”
Facebook has been coming under intense scrutiny lately over political ads. This is just another stumble in their long list of screw-ups.
The Wes Cook Band has opened for Thomas Rhett, Randy Houser, Kip Moore, Charlie Daniels and Jake Owen. They have also embarked on international military tours.
