A new study reveals that Sen. Bernie Sanders’ plan for “Medicare for all” would increase government health care spending by $32.6 trillion over 10 years.
According to Fox News, the study from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University revealed that the federal government would have to impose unprecedented tax increases across the board to pay for “free” medicare for everyone in the United States.
Overall, the study found that Sanders’ plan would save money on administration and drug costs, but it would skyrocket the demand for medical care, drive up spending, result in other government programs not receiving funding, and could result in a total economic collapse.
The study analyzed Sanders’ plan to expand the federal government’s role in Medicare, the insurance program for senior citizens. His plan would provide “free” care to everyone, eliminate copays and deductibles, and greatly reduce the role of the insurance industry.
Sanders-style Medicare-for-All would cost $32.6 TRILLION. That's:
-Nearly twice our annual GDP
-54x our annual defense spending
-Over 8x our annual federal budget
-281x the private sector's annual medical R&D investment
-867x the federal government's annual medical R&D investment https://t.co/YhCaF9it6Z

Charles Blahous, the study’s author who previously served as a senior economic adviser to former President George W. Bush and a public trustee of Social Security and Medicare in the Obama administration, warned that Sanders’ plan would make the government even larger and more powerful than it already is.
“Enacting something like ‘Medicare for all’ would be a transformative change in the size of the federal government.”
In response to the study, Sanders issued a statement labeling the Mercatus Center as “biased” because it receives funding from the conservative Koch brothers.
“If every major country on earth can guarantee health care to all, and achieve better health outcomes, while spending substantially less per capita than we do, it is absurd for anyone to suggest that the United States cannot do the same. This grossly misleading and biased report is the Koch brothers response to the growing support in our country for a ‘Medicare for all’ program.”

Bernie Sanders never put together an estimate for his "Medicare for All" plan. So the Mercatus Center did. The price tag is $32 TRILLION. https://t.co/YnLYF5Lpkt

Sanders’ plan is often refereed to as “single payer” by other Democrats, which means the federal government essentially swallows up the entire health market. While getting “free” Medicare and health benefits sounds appealing, Sanders and other notable socialists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fail to mention how taxpayers will be stuck footing the $32.6 trillion — that’s “trillion” with a “T” — bill over 10 years.
Like Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez also wants to raise taxes across the board, take more money from hard-working Americans, and close all of the loopholes used by entities and people to pay for her radical ideas.
The 28-year-old socialist has been on just about every liberal cable news program and show since she defeated 10-term New York Democrat Rep. Joe Crowley.
When she’s not openly calling for other Democrats to support her plans for socialism in America, she is calling for ICE to be abolished, President Donald Trump to be impeached, the minimum wage to be raised to $15/hr nationally, and government-sponsored “free” medicare and college tuition for everyone.
Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders apparently desperately want America to look like Venezuela, where socialist practices have completely depleted the nation and run it into the ground.
As these radical ideologies and ideas are being heralded by the Left, this new study reveals how catastrophic the “Medicare for all” plan would be on the nation and federal government.
