In what may the most nauseating spectacle of the week, now-former Senator John McCain’s funeral has devolved into a ghoulish orgy of Trump bashing.
McCain’s body has spent time in the rotundas of the capitols of both his home state and Washington and today will be the final one that he spends above ground before he is laid to rest at the Naval Academy Cemetery on Sunday.
The contempt for Trump has not only driven millions to madness but has turned what should be somber events to mourn the dead into political events.
It was only yesterday when a thunderous Al Sharpton hijacked Aretha Franklin’s funeral service which devolved into an anti-Trump hatefest and the same thing has happened at McCain’s services this morning.
But who would have thought that it would be his own daughter to use the eulogy to make a political speech in which she blasted the president’s trademark “Make America Great Again” campaign promise in a classless tirade during which she only cheapened herself.
Meghan McCain: "The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again, because America was always great."

Via the Associated Press, “Meghan McCain’s eulogy: ‘America was always great'”:
John McCain’s daughter opened his memorial service, her voice rising from tearful to impassioned tribute, by posing her father’s legacy as a direct challenge to President Donald Trump.
Meghan McCain said her father was a “great man” and she encouraged others to live up to his example, setting a tone that echoed the senator’s own fighting spirit as services began Saturday at the Washington National Cathedral.
“We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness — the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who lived lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served,” she said, her voice first choking back tears then raising to anger.
She said to applause, “The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great.”
Trump is not on hand for the ceremony, after McCain’s family made clear he was not invited.
It’s both sad and disgusting but this is what happens when someone spends their days hanging around with bigots and America-haters like Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar on “The View” where Ms. McCain works as the token “conservative” and has much in common with her co-hosts than she would admit.
How McCain’s daughter is able to foist herself off as some sort of sanctimonious moral conscience of America has always been laughable but those are the benefits of having a man who owed his entire career to the fawning media coverage that he received from the charlatans who masquerade as journalists. But in using his funeral to take potshots at the man that he loathed with a purple passion, Meghan McCain did her father proud and is well positioned to carry on his spite now that he is finally gone.
Here is her entire eulogy – if you can stomach it.
