CNN’s Don Lemon said on Wednesday that he would not have extended a hand to President Donald Trump like the Obamas did.
When CNN’s Chris Cuomo was ending his show and kicking it off to Lemon, the two discussed the Obamas and Trumps shaking hands and being cordial at the funeral for the late President George H.W. Bush.
Lemon said if he were sitting next to the Trumps like the Obamas were, he wouldn’t have shaken their hands.
“I’m going to say that I don’t think I would shake hands with him. I would just — nope, couldn’t do it. I’m not that big a person,” Lemon told Cuomo. “I would hope that I would be, but I don’t — I can’t fake the funk as they say.”
“They showed the ultimate respect for the office,” Lemon said of the Obamas. “They do not have to show respect for someone who does not respect them.”
Surprisingly, Cuomo told Lemon he was being “rude,” which set him off into another anti-Trump diatribe.
“I’m not petty and small. That’s real, brother. That’s real,” Lemon said. “This is not about ideology. This is about the way someone conducts themselves. If you constantly called me names, and you were rude to me, and you — why should I have to show you respect at all?”
Lemon then said he didn’t think the Trumps should have even attended the funeral.
“An office is not a human being. I don’t think it’s respect for the human being if you talk smack about them, if you say the nastiest things about them, if you treat them as subhuman, and then you want to show up at their funeral. Really? Hell to the no,” he said.

The state funeral on Wednesday for Bush was mostly very cordial and heartfelt, but there was a little drama with the Clintons.
When the Trumps were being escorted into the service, they acknowledged and shook hands with the Obamas, whom they were sitting by.
The Clintons were sitting on the other side of the Obamas and they did not shake hands or acknowledge the Trumps.
As Trump sits down the Clintons don’t even make eye contact. Yikes https://t.co/gKvMnaq1Ex

While they certainly have their differences, many on social media applauded the Trumps and Obamas for being cordial.
On the other hand, it was more than noticeable that the Clintons, particularly Hillary, appeared completely uninterested in acknowledging the Trumps or speaking to them.
And, like the Clintons, Lemon argued he wouldn’t have shaken hands with the Trumps if he was sitting next to them.
