Democratic presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand told several blatant lies about the National Rifle Association over the weekend.
In response, the NRA released an explosive letter they received in 2008 from Gillibrand, where she praised the organization, vowed her support of the Second Amendment, and said she appreciated the work that the NRA does to protect gun owners rights.
During a town hall Sunday night on Fox News, host Chris Wallace called out Gillibrand several times for lying about the NRA.
“The NRA is the worst organization in this country,” Gillibrand said. “They care more about their profits than the American people. They care more about selling guns to someone on the terror watch list or someone with grave mental illness or who has a violent criminal background.”

That’s her first lie.
The NRA is a non-profit organization and they do not sell firearms.
As noted by FiveThirtyEight, Gillibrand’s other claim that NRA wants to sell guns to “someone on the terror watch list” is completely false.
But civil liberties and gun rights groups are critical of the list. … But the ACLU, citing secret documents released by the journalism site The Intercept, was critical in 2014 of the growing numbers of people on the watch list, saying there are no clear standards by which to determine who is placed in a database that can be used for religious and racial profiling. The rights of American citizens to contest their possible inclusion on the list is infringed because of the list’s secrecy, the ACLU said.
The National Rifle Association has said that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase guns but has opposed using the watch list for that purpose because some names may be on the list by mistake. In a statement on Wednesday, the group said that “due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watch list to be removed.”
Later during the town hall, Gillibrand told several more lies.
“Remember, after the shooting in Las Vegas [Trump] said, ‘we’re going to ban the bump stocks.’ Did he ban the bump stocks? No! Because the NRA came crashing down.”
The truth is that the Trump administration did ban bump stocks after the shooting and the ban took effect earlier this year.
Back in 2008, Gillibrand was a congresswoman who represented a conservative district in rural New York.
At the time, she loved the NRA and supported gun rights.
To remind her of this, the NRA released an explosive letter they received in 2004 from Gillibrand, where she praised the organization, vowed her support of the Second Amendment, and said she appreciated the work that the NRA does to protect gun owners rights.

In other words, Gillibrand is a total hypocrite who is lying about the NRA and changing her positions now that she’s running for president.
