A Democratic lawmaker is arguing that Americans owe “reparations” to illegal aliens for being mistreated while in the United States.
During an interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-WA, point-blank said Americans should pay a sum to illegal aliens.
The interview began by discussing Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee last week, which then transition into the topic of family separation among illegal aliens detained in U.S. custody when they cross the border.
Jayapal argued that detaining illegal aliens is “a heinous crime that has been committed on thousands of children.”
“If we all don’t have real passion, real commitment to figuring out what happened and making reparations, the U.S. government should make reparations for what we have done to these families,” Jayapal said.
The Democrat also wrote in her tweet that she supported “reparations” for illegals.
I’m proud of my passion, Mr. Whitaker. We all should show real passion and a real commitment to fixing what was done to these families and these children. This is lasting trauma for thousands of children—we must make reparations. pic.twitter.com/hceesi4xk5

Jayapal is not the only Democrat pushing a plan for “reparations.”
During an interview earlier this month CNN’s “New Day,” Marianne Williamson announced her $100 billion plan that would give reparations to African-Americans for slavery.
Williamson, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, said: “We need a moral and spiritual awakening in the country.”
“Nothing short of that is adequate to fundamentally change the patterns of our political dysfunction,” she added.
“We need someone to articulate what’s happening, the deeper levels of moral dysfunction,” she continued.
Congress can’t even agree on $5.7 billion for a border wall to secure the country, so what makes Williamson believe they would give $100 billion for reparations?
Nevertheless, Williamson made it clear she’s serious about the idea.
“I believe $100 billion given to a council to apply this money to economic projects and educational projects of renewal for that population is a debt to be paid,” she said.
As insane as it sounds, Jayapal and Williamson are not the only Democrat who has flirted with this idea.
During an event in New York City two weeks ago to honor Martin Luther King, Jr., Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., suggested reparations for minorities.
“When we tell the stories of the mistakes we have made in the past, economically speaking, when we talk about the issue of reparations, people think, you know, people think,” she continued.
She added: “Yeah, the first thing that we need to do is realize that there’s a balance more universal struggle for racial, social and economic dignity but at the same time not erasing the individual stories of different communities. So you and I are in the same struggle, it is not mean that, it doesn’t give me a pass to not talk or acknowledge the black experience. And it does not give you a pass to not acknowledge or talk about, the plight of Puerto Ricans and people overall.”
Rep. Maxine Waters, D-CA, also previously suggested that she would support the idea.
