New York City just got torpedoed as it lost 25,000 jobs thanks to people like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pushing back against Amazon, who just canceled plans to provide jobs to many New Yorkers.
Amazon officially announced on Thursday that they have pulled out of all plans to build a second headquarters in New York City.
Ocasio-Cortez actually celebrated then news and didn’t seem to care that 25,000 Americans just missed out on getting a job.
Amazon published in a statement that they were disappointed but would be cancelling plans to build the headquarters, adding, “After much thought and deliberation, we’ve decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens.”
The statement continued:
“For Amazon, the commitment to build a new headquarters requires positive, collaborative relationships with state and local elected officials who will be supportive over the long-term. While polls show that 70% of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City.”
Also consider the amount of tax revenue that New York City could have generated from Amazon as a result.
That is now gone, as well.
Ocasio-Cortez didn’t care, and was found celebrating the pullout on Twitter.
Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world. https://t.co/nyvm5vtH9k

Her spokesperson also said she wouldn’t be releasing a statement on the issue, which is quite sad.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is not giving interviews on the Amazon announcement, per her spokesman. He says to keep tabs on her twitter @AOC

Ocasio-Cortez actually celebrated the news and didn’t seem to care that 25,000 Americans just missed out on getting a job.
NYC Demorat Mayor de Blasio blamed Amazon, claiming that the massive company “threw away the opportunity” to work in the city.
However, it was mostly the push back from politicians like Ocasio-Cortez, who lead to the online retail giant making their decision final.
A senior economic analyst from Bankrate, named Mark Hamrick, said this was basically a shame what happened.
He stated, “For those who didn’t want Amazon to bring the promised 25,000 new jobs and added economic vitality to the area: Be careful what you wish for.”
They certainly got what they wished for as 25,000 proposed jobs are no longer an option for New Yorkers who may have desperately sought employment.
GOP Rep. Pete King of New York chimed in, showing how he felt about the disappointing decision that was brought forth by leftists.
Absolutely disgraceful that @Amazon is driven from New York by left wing progressive politicians. Terrible loss of jobs for New York workers and New York economy.

Elizabeth Warren, who has stolen heritage and lied to the entire country to benefit herself by acting as a Native American person of color, also voiced her opinion.
She supports kicking Amazon to the curb, but her words aren’t worth the screen we’re reading them on after she was caught in her own lies to the country.
.@Amazon – one of the wealthiest companies on the planet – just walked away from billions in taxpayer bribes, all because some elected officials in New York aren't sucking up to them enough. How long will we allow giant corporations to hold our democracy hostage? https://t.co/O9pz7en43B

Reactions to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez were as expected with many people being very upset with her celebratory message about losing 25,000 jobs for her residents.
People don't usually support losing 25,000 jobs, but you do you.

Torpedoing your own citizens, well done.

Now, instead of paying millions of dollars in taxes to NY, they will pay zero, and those 25,000 workers will pay zero as well. Congratulations!

Congrats on chasing away a great company! Big win for socialists.

Congratulations, #AOC! Your naivete just cost New York lots of tax revenue. Other states, and their workers, will welcome Amazon.

AMZN would've created 25K jobs w/avg. salary of $150K…well above your loony $15/hr. min wage idea. It would've meant $10B in tax revenue vs $3B in incentives,..a net gain of $7B for NY. Not 2 mention the local biz who'd benefit from the spending from those jobs. Basic math.

And you've got a degree in economics? 57% of NYC residents…otherwise known as your constituents…support the project, vs. only 26% who don't, but of course, with all your experience in job creation and all that economic theory you learned in college, you know better, right?

congrats on killing jobs supported by 75% of african americans and 65% of hispanics on your district

Along with it 25000 jobs and 27 B in state and local tax revenue. Nice work.
