Several congressional Democrats are turning on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and voicing their support for a border wall.
As noted by Breitbart, numerous Democrats are publicly voicing their support for President Donald Trump’s proposed wall along the southern border between the United States and Mexico.
During an interview on CNN this week, Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-IL, who also serves as the chairwoman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said she has no issue with a border wall.
“If we have a partial wall, if we have fencing, if we have technology used to keep our border safe, all of that is fine,” Bustos said.
In a separate interview, Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland echoed a similar tune while on CNN.
“Certainly you need barriers and we support barriers,” Cardin said.
Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Oregon, also told CNN that he would support a barrier along the U.S. border with Mexico.
“Some fencing is useful, some barriers are useful,” Merkley said. “There’s a lot of surveillance technology. I’ve been to some cities on the border that have triple fencing and have more personnel and have the technology to see the people moving in the middle of the night.”
Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-CA, who is reportedly considering a 2020 presidential run, voiced his support for Trump’s wall.
Senate Minority Whip Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL, said he believes there will be a new barrier of some sort along the border in the future.
Rep. John Garamendi, D-CA, admitted in late December that Democrats support a barrier, including a fence.
“Democrats have repeatedly said that we will support border security, we will support all of its elements including fences,” Garamendi said.
Rep. Katherine Clark, D-MA, who also serves as the Vice Chair of the Democrat conference, said on MSNBC that the border would benefit from additional barriers.
“You know, I think there are parts of the border that would benefit from repairing fencing and other barricades that already exist there,” she said.
Certainly appears Democrats are beginning to crack.
These are just many prominent Democrats who have publicly voiced their support for Trump’s border wall, which is a sign to many that Pelosi and Schumer are losing their argument on this issue.
As Pelosi and Schumer have remained ardently against the wall, the first immigration poll of 2019 spells bad news for Democrats.
According to a new Economist/YouGov survey, 93 percent of Americans say illegal immigration is a problem.
The poll found that just 7 percent of the overall public say illegal immigration is “not a problem” facing the nation.
Trump wants at least $5 billion for border wall funding and Democrats originally offered $1.6 billion, which they claimed was a “very generous” offer.
Trump has also threatened to declare a national emergency and have the military build his wall, which would use funds from the Department of Defense.
In fact, House Armed Service Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Smith, D-WA, stunned many over the weekend and admitted that Trump has the full authority to use the U.S. military to build the border wall.
