Get ready to hear about yet another win for the President, this time regarding the ultra-liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Yes, folks, The Hill reports that Trump’s conservative nominee was approved by the Senate, even after California senators refused to give him a blue slip:
The Senate confirmed President Trump‘s nominee for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday despite objections from both home-state senators.Senators split in a 53-45 vote along party lines to confirm Daniel Bress as a judge to the San Francisco-based appeals court. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand(D-N.Y.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), both of whom are running for president, didn’t vote.Republicans have come under fierce scrutiny for moving Bress’s nomination even though neither Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) nor Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) returned a blue slip on his nomination.
So why was an outstanding candidate with exemplary credentials not given a blue slip? (As a matter of tradition, home-state senators can halt a nominee’s confirmation if they keep their “blue slip” from the Judiciary Committee)
The reason Harris and Feinstein denied Bress a blue slip was purely a matter of politics.
Don’t believe me?
Check out the following that was written against Bress by the president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights:
On behalf of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a coalition of more than 200 national organizations committed to promoting and protecting the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States, I write in opposition to the confirmation of Daniel Bress to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Mr. Bress, 39, is the third conservative ideologue nominated this year to a California seat on the Ninth Circuit over the objections of Ranking Member Feinstein and Senator Harris, the home-state senators. Their opposition is based, in part, on Mr. Bress’s lack of California connections – he is a Washington, DC corporate lawyer who has not lived in California in over a decade.
“Lack of California connections?” Really?!
If you go onto Law.com you will see that Daniel Bress was BORN in California. He went to SCHOOL in California, and he has numerous FAMILY TIES in California.
Are we really supposed to think he’s not connected in California because he got a job in Washington DC?
The real reason that Feinstein and Harris tried to blackball him was because he’s a conservative, and he is now replacing Democrat Alex Kozinski, who left in shame according to the San Francisco Chronicle:
On the losing side of the 53-45 vote were California’s Democratic senators, Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, who noted that the seat had been held by a Californian — Alex Kozinski, who retired last December after allegations of sexual misconduct by at least 15 female staffers — and would ordinarily be filled by a Californian. Bress, 40, was born in Hollister and grew up in Gilroy but has practiced law in Washington since 2008, mainly representing businesses.
How sad to lose, yet again, against another successful Trump nominee.
According to Bloomberg, Daniel Bress is the seventh Trump Selection that will now join the U.S. court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Do you think Trump will be able to turn the formerly-liberal court back to the Conservatives?
