On Saturday, President Donald Trump hammered hate crime hoaxer and actor Jussie Smollett over his made up hate crime along with the way his case was handled in Chicago.
“In addition to great incompetence and corruption, The Smollett case in Chicago is also about a Hate Crime,” Trump said on Twitter.
The President went on to comment on Smollett’s bogus story of when he claimed the two men who beat him up shouted, “This is MAGA Country!”
“That turned out to be a total lie, had nothing to do with ‘MAGA COUNTRY,’” Trump also noted. “Serious stuff, and not even an apology to millions of people!”
In late January, Smollett alleged that he was attacked by two white male Trump supporters in MAGA hats who wrapped a noose around his neck and poured bleach on his face while screaming “this is MAGA country.” After a quick investigation, the Chicago police found that the entire story was made up and in reality, Smollett hired two of his Nigerian friends to stage the entire attack.
This hoax was simply just an attempt by Smollett to gain notoriety and to slander Trump supporters.
Smollett was facing major fines and jail time but unfortunately, the actor was given special treatment by Chicago prosecutors and completely let off the hook for his crimes.
Although he was legally let off the hook, Smollett is still facing consequences. According to a recent report, “Empire,” the show that Smollett starred on, is expected to end after season six and the producers still have no plans for Smollett to return.
“We are turning the final season into a large TV event, we are trying to go out guns a blazing,” Charlie Collier, Fox Entertainment CEO said earlier in May. “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve.”
When asked about whether or not Smollett would return to the set, Collier announced that “we have no plans for that.”
Check out what Deadline reported in relation to the current situation surrounding Smollett:
On the other hand, amidst other long in the tooth issues, Empire was pummeled this year by new ratings lows and the every spiraling controversy over the January 29 presumed hate crime that the Jamal Lyon portraying Smollett is now alleged by Chicago Police and prosecutors to have perpetrated against himself.
Things were still looking good several weeks ago for a longer run when options for key cast like the once and now once again music moguls the Lyon clan of matriarch Cookie (Henson) patriarch Lucious , (Howard), on-screen sons Bryshere Y. Gray, and Trai Byers, along with Gabourey Sidibe and Nicole Ari Parker were sewed up last month for another season, I hear.
Having portrayed openly gay middle son Jamal Lyon on the series from its early 2015 debut, Fox Entertainment and now Disney-owned 20th Century Fox TV “negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for Season 6.”
