President Donald Trump was asked about impeachment, and he wasted little time using his “Clinton card” to silence the media.
While speaking to reporters on Monday outside of the White House at an event for NASCAR’s Indy 500, the president was asked if he is worried about Democrats trying to impeach him.
Trump dropped a bomb in response, reminding the media that former President Bill Clinton was impeached for actually breaking the law and that he hasn’t done anything wrong.
“You can’t impeach somebody when there’s never been a thing done wrong,” Trump began.
“When you look at past impeachments, whether it was President Clinton, or I guess President Nixon never got there — he left. I don’t leave. Big difference,” he added.
Pres confident he won't be impeached. "You can’t impeach somebody when there’s never been a thing done wrong. When you look at past impeachments. … there’s a big difference, I don’t leave," said @POTUS in response to press questions at WH Indy 500 event. pic.twitter.com/ZlcyYzbZFH

Trump’s point was that Clinton was impeached for actually breaking the law, and that he was not going to just leave office because Democrats are threatening to begin impeachment proceedings.
Clinton was impeached in the House of Representatives for having an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky in the late 1990s.
The U.S. House charged Clinton in 1998 with perjury and obstruction of justice for lying about his affair with the young intern inside the White House.
That’s an impeachable offense and far worse than anything Trump has ever done.
But Democrats are still threatening almost daily to begin impeachment proceedings against Trump, even though the Mueller report vindicated the president.
Democrats are so desperate to go after Trump that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told senior Democrats during a closed door meeting last week that she wants to see Trump “in prison.”
While Pelosi has been reluctant to endorse or begin impeachment, she reportedly told Democrats at this meeting that she wants to see the president “in prison.”
Pelosi is currently in a bind with her own party over whether to wait or try to impeach Trump before the 2020 election.
Late last month, Pelosi had a separate contentious closed-door meeting with Democratic leadership.
In this meeting, Pelosi reportedly told top Democrats that they were not ready to push impeachment and that they essentially needed to wait a little longer.
Pelosi may eventually cave and allow House Democrats to move ahead with impeachment proceedings, but she’s well-aware of the political ramifications of going down that path.
Both Attorney General William Barr and Robert Mueller have made it clear that there is no evidence of collusion or obstruction.
Which is why it’s incredibly bizarre to think Pelosi is telling people behind closed-doors that Trump should be “in prison.”
While Democrats desperately want Trump removed, most are well-aware that they do not possess any real evidence to actually impeach the president.
This is nothing more than a political stunt, and Trump knows it.
