Rep. Rashida Tlaib stunned many over the weekend after she claimed thinking about the holocaust gives her a “calming feeling.”
During her interview on Yahoo’s podcast called “Skullduggery,” the Muslim Democratic lawmaker said the Holocaust — where millions of innocent people were murdered — gives her a “calming feeling” because her Palestinian ancestors provided a “safe haven” for Jewish victims of the tragedy.
“There’s always kind of a calming feeling I tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people’s passports,” Tlaib said.
“And just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time,” she added.
Tlaib continued, “And I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away and it was forced on them.”
As The Washington Examiner notes, her argument is completely false.
So, to sum up, Tlaib’s claims that her Arab ancestors provided a “safe haven” to Jews after the Holocaust ignores the Jewish presence in the region and efforts to establish a Jewish state that predated the Holocaust, ignores that her ancestors allied with Hitler at the time of the Holocaust, and ignores decades of violence and terrorism directed at Israel both before, during, and after the Holocaust.
It should be noted that she was making this claim in the context of arguing for a one-state solution, the goal of which has always been for Arabs to overwhelm the Jewish population, and then force them as a minority to be governed by the people who are currently launching rockets at them.
Tlaib became a member of Congress in January, and has already found herself in hot water countless times.
Last month, Tlaib said she feels “more Palestinian in Congress” than American.
While speaking to the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights, the Democratic lawmaker stunned many with her remarks, which have led many to believe she was insulting the United States.
“But I’m more Palestinian in the halls of Congress than I am anywhere in the country, in the world,” Tlaib said.
Before that, Tlaib argued that anyone who wants a border wall also supports white supremacy.
“The ones that stay silent and the ones that support the Muslim ban. Not only once, but twice, three times did we in this nation say to the world and to everyone in this country that Muslims don’t belong here,” Tlaib said.
“From the fact that every time we talk about a wall, it’s not about a structure, but about xenophobia, it’s about racism. It’s a symbol in so many ways of targeting brown and black people in our country. The fact that we continue to stay silent is what’s going to make us as a country less safe,” she added.
Hours after Democrats took control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2018, Tlaib launched into a profanity-laced diatribe against President Donald Trump and voted “impeach the motherf**ker.”
