A new shock report reveals that there’s a wealthy donor behind Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist “Green New Deal.”
According to Breitbart, liberal kingpin George Soros and organizations he is connected to are bankrolling Ocasio-Cortez’s legislation and pushing to help build a coalition of well-funded professional progressive groups to advance the measure in Congress.
The core of the socialist legislation is to require the U.S. to eliminate “pollution and greenhouse gas emissions” and meet “100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources” within 10 years.
As one example of how radical the measure is, the legislation calls for every single building in the United States to be “upgraded or replaced.”
Several of the leftist groups pushing the legislation have ties to Soros, Occupy Wall Street, and Black Lives Matter.
Ocasio-Cortez’s office reportedly teamed up with leftist groups such as the Sunrise Movement and Justice Democrats to craft the 11-page legislation last month.
Since then, Soros and other progressive groups he is connected to have been leading a secret push behind the scenes to pressure lawmakers into supporting the deal.
Here’s more from Breitbart:
Sunrise was in part inspired by the activism of Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter and the radical immigration group United We Dream.
In December, Sunrise said that it raised less than one million dollars, mostly from foundations and grassroots donors. It is not known how much Sunrise has since raised.
Inside Philanthropy reported on donations to Sunrise from the Rockefeller Family Fund:
The group raised just under $1 million in 2018 between its 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities, and received early support from a set of core funders that have since stuck with it. Wallace Global Fund, which was instrumental in the fossil fuel divestment campaign, funds Sunrise, as do the Rockefeller Family Fund (one of the smaller foundations associated with the oil family), and the Winslow Foundation, run by Wren Winslow Wirth, who is married to former politician Tim Wirth. Institutional funders made up about 55 percent of its 2018 budget, with 35 percent coming from individual donors, and the rest from nonprofit partners.
CPD, which is advocating the Green New Deal, is heavily financed by billionaire George Soros. In October 2014, literature that was part of a CPD event listed Soros’s Open Society Foundations as one of CPD’s “three biggest funders.” The Foundations provided the CPD with $130,000 in 2014 and $1,164,500 in 2015, tax documents show. In 2016, Soros’s Open Society Policy Center provided $705,000 to the Center for Popular Democracy’s Action Fund.
People’s Action, another Sunrise partner pushing the Green New Deal, is a merger of a group that previously went by the name of National People’s Action. National People’s Action was also funded by Soros to the tune of $1.2 million and reportedly helped to train protesters for the Occupy Movement, which was also close to Soros funding.
350.org, which is aiding Sunrise in pushing the Green New Deal, has disclosed a donation from the Tides Foundation. Tides, in turn, has been financed by Soros and has been a donor partner of Soros’s Open Society Foundations.
Soros is essentially using his Open Society Foundation to pour money into all of these progressive groups in order to help advance Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal and pressure lawmakers into supporting it.
Aside from Soros’ troubling ties to the measure, the Green New Deal has also been heavily criticized for how much it will cost taxpayers.
A new study reveals that the price tag for socialist measure comes out to $7 trillion.
In fact, a recent study from PJ Media found that the estimated $7 trillion projected cost is painfully low, and that it could actually cost nearly $50 trillion, which would be roughly seven — SEVEN — times more than that.
The “Green New Deal” will cost approximately $49.109 trillion in the first ten years, enough to fund Trump’s border wall 8,616 times over. The president is requesting $5.7 billion for the wall.
Ocasio-Cortez has also called for a smart power grid to replace the U.S. power grid, an estimated cost of $338 billion on the low-end ($476 billion on the high-end), according to the Electric Power Research Institute. This kind of transition may be a good idea in general, but it drives up the cost of the “Green New Deal.”
All that “free” stuff Ocasio-Cortez keeps promising sure is expensive, but she probably doesn’t care so long as Soros is providing a ton of funding behind the scenes.
