Rep. Nancy Pelosi vowed on Saturday that Democrats will “reverse” President Donald Trump’s efforts to secure the border and enforce immigration laws.
In a statement released on her website, the California Democrat appeared to argue that her colleagues in the House will create a strong border by supporting illegal aliens.
“In the Majority, Democrats will work to reverse the Republicans’ destructive anti-immigrant agenda,” Pelosi said.
“Our House Democratic Majority will once again pass the Dream Act to end the uncertainty and fear inflicted on patriotic young men and women across the country,” she said.
“We will protect (Temporary Protected Status) recipients and those fleeing unimaginable violence,” she added.
Pelosi’s letter states that it is in response to one from the Democratic Hispanic Caucus, where the group demanded the Dream Act be passed.
The Dream Act would give the children of illegal aliens who were born in the United States a “path to citizenship.” There are reportedly hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens currently in the U.S. who would likely be eligible if this were to pass.
The Democratic Hispanic Caucus also demanded an end to the “militarization of our borderlands” and condemned Trump for sending troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to deal with the arrival of the migrant caravans.
Pelosi’s letter also appeared to suggest that she would not support allocating substantial money for the border wall.
“Of course, we will meet our responsibility to provide strong, smart border security that serves our country’s needs, is consistent with our values, and doesn’t squander billions of dollars on a border wall,” Pelosi said.
There’s currently a major storm brewing on Capitol Hill during the lame duck Congress.
With the federal government set to shut down in a few weeks if Congress does not pass some form of a spending bill, it appears Democrats and Republicans are hashing it out over allocating funding for the border wall.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told reporters last week that Democrats would agree to $1.6 billion for wall funding, which is far less than the $5 billion Trump wants.
Schumer also didn’t completely shut the door on a potential down the road, and said he wasn’t going to negotiate in public.
Trump made it clear on Monday via Twitter that he has no intention of dropping his demands for the $5 billion in border wall funding.
We would save Billions of Dollars if the Democrats would give us the votes to build the Wall. Either way, people will NOT be allowed into our Country illegally! We will close the entire Southern Border if necessary. Also, STOP THE DRUGS!

“We would save Billions of Dollars if the Democrats would give us the votes to build the Wall. Either way, people will NOT be allowed into our Country illegally! We will close the entire Southern Border if necessary. Also, STOP THE DRUGS!” Trump wrote.
Several reports have suggested a final deal would involve substantial funding for the border wall in exchange for passing the Dream Act or a version of it.
Time will tell if both sides can compromise, and they have just a few weeks to get it done.
