OUCH! Michael Moore’s Anti-Trump Propaganda Film Absolutely TANKED On Opening Weekend

Early indications are that the new Michael Moore movie “Fahrenheit 11/9” may be a box office bomb of unmitigated proportions.

The leftist filmmaker who has become extremely wealthy from producing anti-capitalist propaganda has been in his heyday since President Trump unexpectedly won the last presidential election and has appointed himself as a leader of The Resistance.

But for all of Moore’s visibility and especially how heavily promoted that “Fahrenheit 11/9” has been on the late-night television circuit and cable “news” shows it has to be a stunner that opening weekend has so far been a mega-flop.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, “Weekend Box Office: ‘House With a Clock in Its Walls’ Eyes $25M; ‘Fahrenheit 11/9’ Falls Flat”:

Unless traffic picks up, Fahrenheit 11/9 is headed for an eighth-place finish with only $3 million from 1,719 theaters (pre-release tracking had suggested at least $5 million-$6 million). One bright spot: Audiences gave it an A CinemaScore.

Moore’s satirical, anti-Trump film marks the first release from Tom Ortenberg’s new company, Briarcliff. (Ortenberg worked with Moore on Fahrenheit 9/11 while stationed at Lionsgate.) It earned just north of $1 million on Friday.

In 2004, Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 debuted to a record-breaking $23.9 million from 868 locations. Otherwise, his films, similar to other political or specialized docs, have launched first in select theaters before expanding their footprint in order to capitalize on word of mouth.

Even though reviews have generally been positive (most critics are raving leftists) the dismal showing has to make some wonder whether the gold rush is over for cashing in on anti-Trump sentiment.

Why pay for it when it’s free everywhere else from televisions to supermarket checkstands to the front pages of every newspaper in the land?

There is also Moore’s premise that Trump is just like Hitler, a meme that has been flogged to death to the point of having lost its effectiveness with sane people.

Could this be yet another bad omen for Democrats who are counting on hordes of energized Trump-haters showing up in overwhelming numbers at the polls in November to usher in that mythical “blue wave” that we have been hearing about for two years?

Is The Resistance running out of gas at the worst possible time?

We will have an answer to that on November 6th after “Fahrenheit “11/9” has already been forgotten by all but Moore’s most avid fans.
