Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez revealed on Sunday that she is no longer using Facebook and is cutting back on all social media — and the reason will make many people laugh out loud.
While speaking on a Yahoo News podcast, Ocasio-Cortez said that she’s cutting back on social media over “public health” reasons.
Her comments are laughable because she spends most of her day on Twitter and Instagram picking fights with anyone who criticizes her and uploading embarrassing videos of herself cooking in her kitchen.
“I actually think that social media poses a public health risk to everybody,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
“There are amplified impacts for young people, particularly children under the age of 3 with screen time. But I think it has a lot of effects on older people. I think it has effects on everybody. Increased isolation, depression, anxiety, addiction, escapism,” she added.
Ocasio-Cortez continued, “I personally gave up Facebook, which was kind of a big deal because I started my campaign on Facebook,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “And Facebook was my primary digital organizing tool for a very long time. I gave up on it.”
“Like every once in a while, you’ll see me hop on Twitter on the weekends, but for the most part, I take consumption of content, when it comes to consumption and reading, I take the weekends off,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “And so I’m not, like, scrolling through trying to read everything online that journalists are writing on weekends. I try to do that during the workweek.”
Here are just a few examples of things she has said and done — which is why so many have taken to social media to criticize her.
–Ocasio-Cortez pushed a ridiculous doomsday scenario and argued that “we will have blood on our hands” if climate change is not addressed immediately.
–The New York lawmaker said Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar has done more for 9/11 families than Republican Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL who lost his eye in combat while serving in the Middle East.
–Ocasio-Cortez got busted using a fake southern accent during a speech to “appeal” to her audience at the National Action Network’s convention.
–Ocasio-Cortez freaked out over studies showing that her socialist Green New Deal would cost around $93 trillion over the next decade.
–She lashed out after America’s largest organized labor group said her Green New Deal could lead to the end of humanity.
–Ocasio-Cortez falsely claimed that Republicans amended the U.S. Constitution to prevent Republican President Franklin Roosevelt from getting re-elected.
These are just a few examples of things she has said in the past month — imagine how many false and inaccurate things she has said since becoming a member of Congress in January.
