Folks, this is one of those stories that make you go “Hmm”. We all know that Trump can speak in a straightforward and no-nonsense way, but sometimes it seems to get him in more trouble than he bargains for.
New reports from a LEAKED summary of Trump’s meeting with Russian officials in the White House reveal that Trump called Comey a “real nut job”…and that firing him “eased pressure” on him. When we look at the bigger picture, this isn’t that big of a deal…but the media is going ape s**t over it as we speak.
Before we jump to say it’s more “fake news” from the NY Times, we have to see what the White House is saying. And, in short, they’re not denying it.
“President Trump called former FBI Director James Comey “crazy” and “a real nut job” during a May meeting with Russians officials at the White House and said that firing the top cop had relieved “great pressure” on him, according to a report by The New York Times.
“I just fired the head of the FBI,” Trump, according to a document read to the Times by an American official. “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.”
The comments reported by the Times, allegedly made one day after Trump abruptly fired Comey, could fuel allegations Trump got rid of him because of the investigation into possible collusion between his 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.
On May 10, Trump hosted Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, along with the Russian ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak. “
This next part is the real head-scratching aspect of this whole story. The White House is actually NOT denying it.
“The White House did not deny the conversation took place, but said Comey’s “grandstanding” on an investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 elections, including possible ties to Trump’s campaign, had hurt relations with Moscow.
“By grandstanding and politicizing the investigation into Russia’s actions, James Comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with Russia,” Spicer said.
“The investigation would have always continued, and obviously, the termination of Comey would not have ended it.”
Spicer also said the real story were the negative leaks.
“Once again, the real story is that our national security has been undermined by the leaking of private and highly classified conversations,” he said.
The leak to the Times was particularly damaging since only a select group of people could have had access to the information about the May 10 Oval Office meeting with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.”
At the end of the day, there is NO evidence of collusion with Russia, so we really don’t have anything to worry about. I just wish Trump wouldn’t make things harder on himself. He is just giving the media more fuel to bash him.
That’s why it’s more important than EVER to stand by our President!!!
