WHAT? Fox News Not Only Defends Jim Acosta, But They’re Going To The District Court

Fox News has announced today that they support Jim Acosta and CNN’s efforts to restore his White House press credentials. This comes directly after CNN filed a lawsuit in a district court in response to President Trump having Acosta’s press credentials removed.

His ‘hard pass’ was revoked and taken by a Secret Service agent after Acosta was in a brief confrontation with President Trump, in which Acosta would not stop asking questions nor would he hand the microphone to the White House aide who was tasked with retrieving it.

They shared a tense moment that turned into a viral video and Acosta’s ‘hard pass’ being removed.

Fox News President Jay Wallace said in a statement:

Fox News supports CNN in its legal effort to regain its White House reporter’s press credential. We intend to file an amicus brief with the U.S. District Court. Secret Service passes for working White House journalists should never be weaponized. While we don’t condone the growing antagonistic tone by both the president and the press at recent media avails, we do support a free press, access and open exchanges for the American people.”

The incident with Acosta went viral as copies of the video traversed the Internet. At one point, Acosta stated that he had not made physical contact with the woman, but the video shows his arm and hers briefly touching as she reaches for the microphone, which he then held onto with the strength of the Hulk.

Trump was irritated with Acosta’s behavior during the press conference and his credentials were stripped.

“I’ve just been denied entrance to the WH. Secret Service just informed me I cannot enter the WH grounds for my 8pm hit”

“The US Secret Service just asked for my credential to enter the WH. As I told the officer, I don’t blame him. I know he’s just doing his job. (Sorry this video is not rightside up)”

CNN retaliated by filing a federal lawsuit targeting Trump’s administration. CNN also demanded that Acosta’s press credential be restored immediately.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said the lawsuit was “more grandstanding from CNN.” She also reminded readers that CNN has many other reporters who report from the White House, essentially saying that CNN still has reporters in the White House, but Acosta is no longer granted access.

“This is just more grandstanding from CNN, and we will vigorously defend against this lawsuit… CNN, who has nearly 50 additional hard pass holders, and Mr. Acosta is no more or less special than any other media outlet or reporter with respect to the First Amendment. After Mr. Acosta asked the President two questions — each of which the President answered — he physically refused to surrender a White House microphone to an intern, so that other reporters might ask their questions. This was not the first time this reporter has inappropriately refused to yield to other reporters.”

President Trump does not like CNN and consistently refers to them as “fake news.”

At one point, Trump said: “Honestly, I think you should let me run the country and you run CNN.”
