According to the Associated Press, President Trump is charging forward with his plan for the State of the Union address despite Nancy Pelosi’s letter which “disinvited” him. He also has a few contingency plans if Pelosi continues to reject the President’s request.
The AP reports that “the White House sent an email to the House Sergeant-at-Arms asking to schedule a walk-through in anticipation of a Jan. 29 address, according to a White House official who, like others, spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the planning by name.”
Although President Trump can’t technically speak in front of a joint session of Congress without both chambers’ explicit consent, he is trying to find an awesome alternative.
Here is the contingency plan that Trump is pondering:
The White House is continuing to work on contingency plans to give Trump a back-up in case the joint-session plans fall through. Officials have been considering a list of potential alternative venues, including a rally-style event, an Oval office address or a speech before the Senate Chamber, according to two others familiar with the planning.
Multiple versions are also being drafted to suit the final venue.
Yes – he’s considering a CAMPAIGN-STYLE State of the Union address! Now THAT would be awesome.
Last week, Rand Paul offered another alternative if Speaker Pelosi ultimately refuses Trump’s SOTU address.
“Senator McConnell is in charge of the Senate,” Paul tweeted. “If Mrs. Pelosi refuses to allow the president to deliver the State of the Union in the House, I propose we move it to the Senate and make it happen!”
Here’s what he tweeted:

As the Daily Caller points out, “recent tradition dictates that House leadership invites the president to deliver his annual State of the Union address, but a written address is not entirely unprecedented.”
The only challenge that some have pointed is the fact that the Senate chamber might be a bit small to host this major speech:
This might be fun. The Senate chamber is cramped and it would be Standing Room Only, but if no one brings guests, they max out gallery space and most of the Democrats boycott (as one does these days), I bet they all could shoehorn in there. https://t.co/Qs57LfvbDm

Syndicated columnist Phil Kerpen made also this suggestion for the Senate Majority leader:
Tight squeeze if the House members show up, but most Dems won't.

Mr. Kerpen has a great point about the Democrats. Most of them won’t show up because they don’t give one damn about working with the President to improve our country.
