It appears as though the liberal media has finally decided that they don’t want Beto. No, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke has finally fallen out of the graces of the leftists, but not for his character or questionable past, but rather for his DNA- you see, sadly, Beto is a white male.
CNN has been at the forefront of the gender/color-based criticism, and it did not go unnoticed.
As reported by Newsbusters:
MRC analysts looked at all of CNN’s coverage from March 14 (the first full day after O’Rourke’s announcement) and found 52 instances in which talking heads criticized Beto for being both white and a male. Those cases included only mentions by hosts, analysts, or outside journalists — not politicians or Democratic operatives.
Misgivings about Beto’s racial and chromosomal makeup were front and center on CNN’s New Day that morning. During the 6:00 a.m. Eastern hour, co-host John Berman helpfully explained O’Rourke’s biology to viewers: “O’Rourke is a white male. And he’s conscious of his white maleness.” We rate this statement True.
However, Berman saw that fact as a problem for the 46-year-old failed Senate candidate: “This is seen as a moment by some where Democrats want to nominate either a woman or a minority. Beto O’Rourke is neither of those things.”
If he isn’t a woman or a minority, he’s got NO CHANCE to win, right? Statistics would beg to differ on this point.
As reported by Newsbusters:
It’s worth noting that the Democratic Party hasn’t had a presidential nominee who ticked both the “white” and “male” boxes since 2004. That fact alone is not proof that such a person could never be viable in future Democratic primaries. But perhaps it is evidence, especially considering how much trouble it’s given Beto over the past 24 hours.
So the fact that the Democrats have shown that they actually have no problem with white males, perhaps there is more to the story than that. Regardless, some media outlets reported that it was the Republicans who have actually done the most harm for Beto, and specifically a group called “Club for Growth.”
As reported by the New York Magazine:
This week, Iowa TV viewers will be treated to a two-minute ad titled “Pedigree,” in which the Club for Growth expresses its outrage over the deeply problematic notion that Beto O’Rourke is the new Barack Obama. Specifically, the anti-tax group paints O’Rourke as the poster child for white male entitlement. In the spot’s telling, O’Rourke has spent his whole life falling steadily upward, as his race and class privileges transformed his failures into learning experiences. Obama and O’Rourke both earned undergraduate degrees at Columbia University, the narrator allows, but “Obama went on to become the first African American editor of the Harvard Law Review, breaking barriers. Beto crashed into them; causing a collision while driving drunk, then fleeing the scene to avoid accountability. His charges were dropped as people of color languished behind bars for far less.
Obama organized poor communities in Chicago, the conservative group notes (with affected admiration); O’Rourke let his wife’s “billionaire real-estate developer” dad buy him a city council seat — then, he voted to demolish a poor Hispanic community to make way for his father-in-law’s downtown development projects. The ad concludes by casting the very concept of O’Rourke’s presidential campaign as an expression of dude/bro entitlement, asking why it is that narrowly losing statewide races didn’t turn Stacey Abrams and Andrew Gillum into contenders. “With a charmed life like” Beto’s, the narrator explains, “you can never really lose.”
Beto is definitely not a Barack Obama. So it looks like his charmed life isn’t going to be that beneficial to his 2020 run for president; that is, unless he starts to identify as a 68-year-old black woman. We’ll keep you posted.
