Government began a partial shutdown about three weeks ago and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently challenged fellow members of Congress to have ‘integrity’ and decline their paycheck while federal workers were being shafted out of theirs.
At this point it remains unclear if Ocasio-Cortez has been taking her paycheck while asking others to decline theirs.
No one seems to know if she’s declined her paycheck to stand in solidarity with her fellow government employees or she’s taking the paycheck, despite telling others to decline theirs.
The NY Post quoted Ocasio-Cortez from December 22 as saying, “It’s completely unacceptable that members of Congress can force a government shutdown on partisan lines & then have Congressional salaries exempt from that decision.
She also wrote on Twitter about Congress skipping their paychecks, according to Nikki Schwab of the NY Post, that “speaking as a working class member-elect, I think that’s only fair” and “it would also cause members who actually depend on their salary to think twice about leadership and take a shutdown vote more seriously.”
That was before Ocasio-Cortez began her job as a Congresswoman.
Now that she’s officially in action, she’s being questioned about her paycheck and if she’s actually declining it or taking it secretly after advocating for others to not be paid.
The NY Post reached out to her, but stated “Ocasio-Cortez’s spokesman didn’t respond to numerous emails, texts and calls from The Post asking what she herself is doing.”
Their report also states that several lawmakers in New York have already offered to give up their salary until government is reopened.
“Right at the start of the shutdown, Republican Reps. Lee Zeldin and Elise Stefanik announced they had asked the House Chief Administrative Officer to withhold their checks. They were joined by Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who said he was doing it in solidarity with New York’s 14,000 federal employees.
Rep.-elect Max Rose (D-N.Y.), who will be sworn in alongside Ocasio-Cortez on Thursday, announced Monday he would donate his pay to a local charity.
“This shutdown is an insult to Americans who work their heart out every day because, unlike congress, they can’t afford to act like children,” Rose said.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s salary is reported to be $174,000. After previously clamoring about how she struggled to get by, she’s now making a very nice salary, but the American people want answers.
Is Ocasio-Cortez taking her salary or giving it up like she asked others to do?
Let’s ask her.
Are you taking your salary or giving it up until govt reopens?

Roughly 420,000 federal employees are going without pay, but Congress typically still gets paid during a shutdown.
Perhaps it should be 420,001 if Ocasio-Cortez declines her paycheck.
Then again, if Democrats would agree to border security, something they’ve been strong on in previous presidencies, then we wouldn’t have a shutdown at all.
Democrats simply do not like Trump, because if Obama wanted a wall, he would’ve gotten one.
